Pierre Bensusan

Since Bursting on the scene in the mid 70's, Algerian born Pierrre Bensusan's name has become Synonymous with contemporary acoustic guitar genius. Voted one of the three acoustic guitarists, with Earl Klugh and Paco De Lucia, by the readers of Frets Magazine, composer and singer Pierre Bensusan is an acoustic visionary who combines sensibility with shadings of ethereal jazz, pop, ethnic and classical melodies along with free and fusion styles.

He has graced the work of many other artists such as Doc Watson, John Renbourn, David Bromberg, David Grisman Dan Ar Bras and Suzanne Vega, and has become legendary in his own right.

Influenced in his early years by the folk revival blooming in Britain, France, and North America, Bensusan began first to explore his diverse musical heritage and then moved his horizons beyond. At seventeen he signed his first recording contract, and then one year later his first album, "Pre's de Paris" (1976) won the prestigious Grand Prix Du Disque upon his debut at the Montreux Festival in Switzerland.

Working Exclusively in the the unusual DADGAD tuning, Pierre has developed a bitter sweet melodic approach that incorporates Celtic lines with Latin and North African rhythms and wordless vocals in the Jazz scat traditions.

Bensusan is a compelling concert performer and a stellar contributor to folk festivals of old including Montreux, Cambridge, Montreal, Vancouver, Mariposa, Rotterdam and Vienna. With his young family, Bensusan now lives in the French countryside near Paris.

one of the truly gifted musicians of our time- he plays the guitar as if it were the very soul of himself"
