Kate MacLeod

With Guest:   Kate MacLeod

Kate MacLeod is an unpretentious songwriter whose lyric style is subtle, spare and sometimes chilling, delivering her music with strong vocals, guitar, and exquisite fiddle playing. Some of her songs are based on historic events and are written in a folk ballad style that demonstrates her long experience with traditional music. Others of her songs could easily be covered by mainstream artists. Kate's lyrics have invited comparisons to John Steinbeck and Woody Guthrie, and her singing has been compared to Nanci Griffith and Emmylou Harris. Kate cites Jean Ritchie, Norman Blake, Peter Rowan, Mary McCaslin, and Paul Simon among her influences; but Kate is very much an original. MusicHound Folk's essential album guide chose Kate as one of 1998's "ten acts to watch." We think you will agree!

Doug Wilcox

And Guest:   Doug Wilcox

Doug Alan Wilcox "There's a road that stretches before us; the likes of which we may never have seen. New horizon runnin' wide and free...". These words from the Doug Alan Wilcox CD "New Horizon" can be interpreted as a metaphor for Doug's expanding career as a performing songwriter as he seeks to bring his music to all who will listen. Strongly believing in a grass-roots approach to performing, Wilcox reaches his listeners one by one and may just as easily be found plying his trade at the corner coffeeshop as the local concert venue. The method seems to be valid as new faces are added to his fan base on a weekly basis.

Although working as a solo artist for several years now, Doug's background as frontman for numerous bands is evident in his casual repoire with the audience and command of the stage. Nationally known musicians Chuck Brodsky, Peter Mayer, Lisa Moscatiello and Tanya Savory are included in the roster of players with whom Wilcox has shared a stage to date.

Based not far outside the D.C. Capitol beltway in Maryland, Doug is currently bringing his blend of country-flavored folk and acoustic pop to fans up and down the East Coast and beyond.
